In reinforcing soft foundation, the vacuum preloading method is applied more and more widely. As the frame of power transformation generating line is well adapted to the load, but not to the settlement, the vacuum preloading method is introduced as one of the most appropriate and economic way to the ground treatment in electric substation. In this paper, it was studied the characteristics and zone of influence in soft foundation reinforcement on the basis of theory and research ever had and the field test data measured, then it was suggested some improvements of construction technique.Firstly, by the data measured from field test, it was analyzed the characteristics and effect in reinforcing soft foundation with vacuum preloading method in which there is underplayed confined aquifer and sand.Secondly, on the basis of research on construction technique, this paper gave some advice on improvements in condition of underplayed confined aquifer and sand.Finally, this paper compared the data tested from three different boundary conditions, and studied the deformation law and effect. The discussion will be helpful in study of zone of influence especially the protection of buildings against the boundary.
