Accurate fault location will lighten the work of seeking for the fault and facilitatequicker repair and restoration to reduce the damages due to stop of power supply, oncefaults occur on the transmission line. To ensure proper operation of the system, it is ofgreat importance to determine the exact fault location when fault happens. For manyyears, accurate fault location of high voltage transmission line has been paid muchattention to. on the basis of a lot of predecessors' achievements,At first, some existing methods of transmission line fault location are summarizedand those methods' primary merits and disadvantages are analyzed as well.At second, the distributed parameters impedance fault location has been discussedmainly in this thesis,the author presented new algorithms for locating fault place of highvoltage transmission line based on the distributed parameters.Meanwhile, this paper describes a fault location method for transmission lines usingonly synchronized voltage measurements at both ends of the line too, eliminating theinherent error due to CT.
