Some essential hydraulic characteristics and the influence of the coefficients of head loss to the wave process of the throttled surge tank are carefully analyzed through summarizing the past study. The main research includes:Chapter 1: Indicate the significance and background of this paper, systematically introduced the development of the throttled surge tank, and then present the study idea of this paper.Chapter 2: Introduce the hydraulic model test of the upstream tank of Guang Zhao Hydropower Station in Guizhou province, analyze the results of experimental data, such as the surge max water level, min water lever and the soleplate's pressure, at the same time ,provide contrastive materials to the later mathematical calculation.Chapter 3: Use some style of distributary and confluence of Gardel model test to simulate the flowing style in the add load. Based on the Gardel formula, gain the coefficients of total head loss of throttled surge tanks in different flowing state, analyze and compare with the results of hydraulic model test of surge tank by Pro. Cai Fulin etc, gain that the result of the coefficients of total head loss of throttled surge tanks accord with the results of hydraulic model test. Based on the energy equation, there is a kinetic energy head between the total head loss and the orifice head loss of the surge tank, thus gain the in-flow or out-flow coefficients of head loss of throttled surge in the add load operating mode. Use two methods ,one is the coefficients of head loss provided above, the other is the generally used coefficients 2.0,calculate the surge level and the soleplate's pressure, separated analyze and compare with the results of hydraulic model test introduced in Chapter 2.Chapter 4: Following the research of transient process in add load operating mode, analyze and calculate hydraulic characteristics and coefficients of head loss of throttled surge in load rejection and superposed operating modes. Be same with the calculation of the surge level and the soleplate's pressure above, analyze and compare with the results of hydraulic model test introduced in Chapter 2,the result show, it's a convenient universality and fast method to calculate the transient process in the hydropower stations.Chapter 5: Summarize the whole paper, and present the future research content.
