Hydraulic transient of hydropower plant is that the flow in hydropower plant changesits state from one stable state to another. In this process, a water wave forms in thepipeline. It would be danger to the pipelines or equipments in the hydropower plant andwill threaten the safe and stability of operation of hydropower plant. We must calculate allof parameters which could threaten to the operation, and find some methods to solveproblems or give some standards.First, based on the basic theory of water hammer, this thesis uses characteristicsmethod to solve the equations of water hammer in hydraulic transient. It proposes themathematical models of the pipeline system in the hydropower plant, and calculates theprocess with computer program. It simulates the hydraulic transient of a specific projectand gets curves of transients, then analyzes these results, gives the right solution to solveproblems at last.This thesis calculates the large fluctuation transient of a hydropower plant. Itresearches influence the close rule of guide vane to the big fluctuation transient, optimizesthe close rule and got well solution. Then on this base, it calculates and discusses thepossibility of adding tailrace surge chamber. After calculated several different situations, itconfirms the necessity of adding tailrace surge chamber and this tailrace surge chambercan make the hydropower plant operating safety and stably.However, there are some difficult points found in the research process, such as theresearch of methods of optimizing the close rule of guide vane in some complicatedsituations and ways of reducing the cross-sectional area of surge chamber, etc. All of themneed more in-depth research.
