Great development has made in deep excavation recently, but there are many imperfections in design theory. The calculation of earth pressure is one example. The Coulomb's or Rankine's theories have been used up to now. But there are so much differences between theories and actual conditions. Theory analysis and model test have been made for the problem in this paper. The main research contents consist of:A mathematic model is presented about the change of pore water pressure in deep excavation. The methods of estimating water and earth pressure separately and together are contrasted and studied. The academic discussion and the relative codes of this problem are reviewed. The rule of transfer and change of pore water pressure is the focus of the study. The qualitative and quantitative research is done about the change of pore water pressure. The earth pressure is studied with different ways, such as horizontal layer element model, soil arching effect theory and damage soil mechanics. The correlation with earth pressure and deformation of soil or supporting structure is probed.Model tests of cantilever support pattern and pile-anchored support pattern are studied by selecting local representative clay. The magnitude and change of water and earth pressure, the deformation of soil and supporting system and the failure model are observed and studied.
