Digital Drainage Area Water System Building is one important aspect in the studying area of digital hydrology. Water system building model of high quality can largely improve the effectiveness and accuracy of hydrology model's application, which therefore guarantees that the precision of regional hydrology simulation be raised. Having reviewed the evolvement of the DEM-based Digital Drainage Area Water System Building, in this paper one method (aiming at the deficiency of the numerous hydrology models and compatible with the hydrology study) of building the digital drainage area water system is presented. Furthermore, one tangible system is built using this method.Firstly, the general method to building the system is analyzed, and one method based on the theory of the shortest procedure doing the same job is discussed. Secondly, the regional increasing method is used to decide the water flowing direction, in which way the actual drainage area water system is better simulated, producing the satisfying fitness between the built water channel and the actual one. The result also accords with the actuality of water conflux. Thirdly, contrary to the weak building and analysis function of the sub-drainage area in the numerous hydrology models, the sub-drainage area division, management and analysis functions are enhanced integrating the professional knowledge and practical demands. Lastly, the system of Digital Drainage Area Water System Building meeting the practical application requirements is initially established.
