Web Light-Gauge steel joist structure system (Web steel) is a new type of steel structure, coming from Canada with such many advantages as higher standardizing, assigning space flexible, good performance of the seismic resistant, industrialization producing, short Construction period, protecting environment and economizing energy sources et al. This kind of structure has been used mostly in low story residential building for 20 years in North America. It agrees our national estate policy applying Web steel to multiple-story residential building. Web steel has a good future in China.Web steel is made of small trusses and has complex constitution. There is no design standard and code for this kind of structure. Testing and analysis are needed.A series of testing research and finite element analysis were done in Wuhan University of Technology for the Web steel truss beam, truss column, wall and joint. A 6-story Web steel building was designed. The research work was provided as a reference for the popularization and application of Web steel in China.Taking Web steel truss beam as the research object in this thesis, a series of testing and finite element analysis were done to the mechanical performance of truss beam as follow:1. Bearing capacity experiments were finished for 13 Web steel truss beams. The distribution rules of the displacement and strain are analyzed for each loading level. The failure mode of Web steel truss beam is understood and the loading capacities are obtained. In addition, base on the testing results, some ways were proposed for improving ultimate carrying capacities of truss beams.2. ABAQUS software was used to build up the finite element calculation model of Web steel truss beam. The finite element analysis results have a good accordance with the experimental data, showing the method is right and valuable of building the truss beam analysis model.3. Considering the different types of chord section and V shape clip, distances between clips and setting orientation of clip etc, the rigidity, ultimate carrying capacities and failure modes of truss beam were analyzed and calculated by finite element method. The impact factors of the truss beam bearing capacities were summarized. A series of detailed tables on the bearing capacities of truss beam were provided as the convenient references for designers.
