Study On The Christian Architecture In Xuanhua

Xuanhua is an old town in the north up-country of China. It situated in the northwest of Hebei Province, edge of Yanshan sierra. There are 170 kilometers from Xuanhua to Beijing. This area is a intersection point of the Huabei plain and inner Mongolian highland, also the pasture culture and agriculture border meeting point. It has a glorious history, and played a very important role in the process of Christianity dissemination in the north up-country of China. Its Christianity architectures appears most early in the Qing Dynasty. From then on, there is long history more than three hundred years. But the main building movements concentrates in the active time of Chinese modern architectural history. About 230 buildings was recorded, some of them are infrequent architecture demonstration of Christianity dissemination in China for the forth time, and has had the profound influence to the local modern construction and the social development.This article rests on the literature, the correlation data and the on-the-spot investigation, and makes a whole description on the collections and textual researches to the related materials. Through the extant Xuanhua Architecture of Christian religion culture survey, we discovered that of Christian religion culture Architecture extanted are located in a very broad area, and the construction characteristic difference is obvious, also the present situation quality is different. Based on this, in order to make the description more objectively, this paper divides them into three periods, and chooses three typical examples for anglicizing in order to find out the different artistic and scientific characters of different development period. Then return to the whole area again to have a comparison research. At last, this paper sum up the course of developments, changes and the features of the buildings in Xuanhua, points out the historic, cultural and technical value and significant of it. Further more, this article also has a thinking about the protection and the use suggestion in view of the extant construction survival and the development problems, and carries on reconsidering andthe forecast on the newly built construction creation.The entire topic take the Chinese modern times architecture development course as a background, make a deep analysis on the Xuanhua Christianity architectures in modern times. On one hand the article has made up this local this kind of building historical data reorganization and the research blank, On the other hand also provides the history and the theory basis for this kind of building protection use and the new construction creation. It is a basic theory for further study of Christian architecture in China.
