The tendency of architecture would be skew to extreme if the architectural basic function were neglected. The needs of green-architecture let us realize again that building should be adapted to the locale climate, which has been thrown away for a long time. Today, the requirement of energy-saving and comfort will endow these with a brand-new understanding and annotation. And climatic building design is being another way of the architecture. It plays an important role in climatic building design that how to cooling a building by utilizing climate. The main method of passive cooling — natural ventilation — is the focus we pay attention to. However, the problem that should be solved in passive cooling is whether the locale climate can do its work. This thesis is very different from the others that focused on the interior factors of good natural ventilation cooling. The exterior factors (climatic factors) become the object in this research. How much available degree of natural ventilation can be used in each city in summer will be confirmed and come into being clear charts. Therefore, it will become reference for architect, when they want to know if the natural ventilation can do a good work in a building or which style of ventilation is right.First, the theory and method of cooling were analyzed. And these climatic factors that decided the cooling effect were found out. Second, studied on these factors, climate mapping of whole country were researched by using the cluster analysis and thermal comfort analysis. The main target of cluster analysis is to identify various groups that have the similarity of their climatic conditions. The thermal comfort analysis can confirm each group's available degree of natural ventilation. Then, the increments of day that can let human feeling comfortable by using ventilation were considered indexto make the available degree quantitative. At last, several charts were used to show the result of analysis. From these charts, architect can easily find out which styles of natural ventilation can be used in buildings in every city all over the country. And what's effect can be reached by using different ventilation styles. So the architect can get the answer about the question that natural ventilation can be used or not, and effective or ineffective. The conclusion of this research will become a theory basis for architect during their project. This study on climate mapping of natural ventilative cooling will be giving essential design guide for both eco-ecological as well as energy efficient building design.
