With the development of people's demand for house, there are many short-limbed shear wall structural systems in recent years. Short-limbed shear wall is an inter-gradation of structure style between erose-section-column frame and conventional shear wall structure, which is generally used in the small high residential building. Nowadays, the short-limbed shear wall structure is widely used for residence projects. But it is short of enough experimental and theoretic bases.In this paper, the short-limbed shear wall structure of an eight-storey house is studied by nonlinear finite element analysis.This structure is simply simulated and analyzed by finite element method, and using analytic solution proves the finite element model reasonable, and insures the latter analysis right. Using load replacement method, while carrying on analyzing strength performance of coupled short-limbed shear wall, acting on in layer of centralized load equals to triangle load for the whole shear wall;in order to investigate the whole course of coupled short-limbed shear wall is from fracturing to destroying.In this paper, main analysis research on strength performance of short-limbed shear wall are influenced by reinforcement ratio, axial compression ratio, ratio of span-height of coupling beams;investigating destruction course of coupled short-limbed shear wall.Finally, based on the practical project, this thesis summarizes a method which is used for designing and computing technology law of Short-limbed shear wall now, and explains the difference between commonly used TAT software and SATWE software through the practical project, will obtain the rational suggestion after analysis.In sum, because short- limbed shear wall structural system is a new kind of structural system, research on it has just begun. This paper only studies the performance of the short-limbed wall. However, this paper carries on no systematic research on definition of short-limbed wall, mechanical property, failure modes, dynamic characteristic, seismic performance and design method. Hence previous researches on short- limbed shear wall will instruct relevant personnel how to carry on the rational and economic design to such structural system.
