A wharf of a port occupies an important position to a national economy and the social development. Some huge economical loss and bad effect will be made because to the interruption of the port. Previous earthquakes have demonstrated that pile-wharf structures are susceptible to damage. Earthquake reconnaissance efforts suggests that damage results from liquefaction of surrounding soil, which induces large deformation demands on the structure and may result in structural failure , or inadequate structural performance, which is influenced by and may be caused by the response of the soil.To the existent question of the existing wharf, the dynamic performance of pile wharf structure is analysed by FEA. The rationality of reducing the joint's rigid is discussed. A joint of the vertical pile with power-wasting gap is brought forward based on tenon-and-mortise work. The antiseismal performance and destructive mechanism of the joint is discussed under the monotonic and the low-cyclic reversed load. It is expected that there is a new approach that can improve the dynamic performance of the high pile wharf. The anticipative fruit in the paper has very worthiness to NSFC's item. At the same time it is very significative to improve the antiseismal performance of the wharf and reduce the seismal risk. The major contents are summarized as follows:1. The dynamic performance of the pile wharf is calculated by FEA when there are different joint at the top of the vertical piles. The rationality of reducing the joint's rigid at the top of the vertical pile is discussed.2. On the basis of the dynamic analysis and a power-wasting theory of tenon-and-mortise work, a joint with power-wasting gap between the vertical pile and its cap is designed.3. Under the monotonic load two joints without gap and with gap are analysed. Their mechanical performance is compared.4. Under the low-cyclic reversed load two joints with gap which have different ratio of reinforcement at the core of the pile are analysed. The power-wastingperformance of the joints is get.5. Some farther measure is put forward to the connection at the top of the vertical.
