Pile-supported wharf is the mainly form of structures which can be built in the softfoundations. It can transfers forces into the foundation through piles. And the pile-supportedwharf is widely used in coastal harbor cause of its load-bearing capacity is big, and it needsless dug-out and less backfill. Since last century, pile-supported wharf were badly damaged inthe earthquake, so it gets more and more attentions now. The seismic response ofpile-supported wharf is closely related to the interaction forces between wharf deck, piles andfoundation. The research of seismic response of wharf is related to different material behavior,it’s hard and its achievement are not much. For now, the seismic design of wharf in China ismainly based on the quasi-static method, its analysis is not enough.This paper is based on the analysis of the present situation in the related field at homeand abroad, and This paper established a finite element model of dynamic analysis, calculatedand analysed the seismic response of Pile-supported wharf, it is taken into account the wharfhorizontal displacement and stiffness of the upper structure, and the of pile top, internal forceof wharf structure, etc. This paper mainly results are as follows:(1) To summarize the damages and seismic research in pile-supported wharves in theearthquake domestic and overseas, for which is highlighted in the seismic research in contrastwith America, to find out the insufficient status and indicated that needed to be developed.(2)To build two dimension and three dimension model of a pile-supported wharf withANSYS, and compute in four cases, to find out the similarities and differences between thesetwo models. After the analysis, it can be concluded as these: the three dimension model canreflect the fact in case of with vertical static loads, and two dimension model is much moresuitable for dynamic analysis.(3)To analysis the seismic performances of wharf with different batter-pile location, the7thstreet wharf and Howard wharf finite element models were built as a consideration of theLoma Prieta earthquake in 1989. The analysis result indicated that, with independentbatter-piles in the rear of plumb pile system’s seismic responses decreased, which means the seismic performances of this wharf structure is good.
