The piezoelectric materials have been widely used in the field of structural active vibration control as a new type of smart materials because of their excellent mechanical-electrical coupling characteristics. By the piezoelectric material's positive piezoelectric effect and negative piezoelectric effect, this paper analyses the interaction between PZT film and a vibration system of piezoelectric smart cantilever beam, the dynamical model and close-loop control state equation are established with regard to a pair of PZT sensor/actuator. The influence of feed back control gain, PZT film's position and it's length to the control performance is studied, and the curves which describe these influence are obtained. They explain the interaction between these parameters, and help to the design of active vibration control system of piezoelectric smart cantilever beam. On the above, the optimal model with m pairs of PZT sensor/actuator and state equation are established, and the PZT films' position/length and the feedback control gain are optimized with the method of moving asymptotes. At last, experimental platform for a piezoelectric cantilever beam is set up, and the theoretical analysis has been verified by experiments.
