Electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF) rely on Faraday's law of induction. In electromagnetic flowmeter the flow rate is measured using the potential difference between tow electrodes when a magnetic field perpendicular to the flow is applied. It appears that electromagnetic flowmeters are particularly suitable in this respect because they are essentially noninvasive, their method of sensing does not influence the flow regime and they have no moving parts. After dedaces of research in EMF, almost all flowmeter manufacturers in the world have their own EMF products. A diverse range of electromagnetic flowmeters based on the same measurement principle are available in the marketplace, and the products of various manufacturers have different performance due to their different implementation of the circuit and signal processing method. With the development of electronic technology, the new signal processing devices can be applied to the electromagnetic flowmeter design to improve the performance. An electromagnetic flowmeter converter based on ARM is presented in this thesis. The main work of the dissertation includes:(1) The history and status of electromagnetic flowmeter are reviewed, at the same time its theory and developed production are introduced in detail.(2) An electromagnetic flowmeter converter prototype based on ARM has been developed. Many new technologies in EMF design are applied in the system design. The system is extensively applicable for different manufacturers in different countries. Most functions are implemented by software and the reliability of system improved. Besides, the system is advantageous of being simple structure, small volume, low cost and open system and it is also easy to operate and maintain.(3) The performance of designed system is tested. The system is calibrated using the standard meter method. The experimental result shows the precision of the prototype is 0.5%.
