It's one of the most important function for distribution automation to realize fault location, fault section isolation and service restoration in time when fault happens. It's significant to assure power supply reliability and improve service quality. A new fault location algorithm in this dissertation is proposed after analyzing and researching carefully distribution network non-supervise area, and explores the special module for distribution network non-supervise area fault location based on geographic information systems(GIS). It's an efficient augment for distribution network feeder automation. Firstly The characteristic of network model of distribution system and GIS data model is analyzed in this dissertation. The commonness of these two network topology models is found after compared concrete distribution network with geometric network of GIS. Then a distribution network model based on GIS is proposed, and a source analysis function is realized using GIS network analysis function on it. The source analysis function is a pretreatment with the large trouble call in fact. Secondly, a new fault location algorithm is proposed based on rough set theory. Rough set theory decision-making table is automatically created on the geometric network of distribution network, and a generic method of reducing decision-making table and searching minimum reduction is presented. It doesn't need any transcendental information for data set of the problem when rough set theory deal with uncertain problems, what's more it can reduce data then get minimum expression of knowledge under the precondition of assuring crucial information, ultimately the simple schema of information set is discovered, so the new fault location algorithm is very suitable for fault location on the non-supervise area using trouble call as information. Complicated computing such as tide is unnecessary so it shortens the time of fault location and fault isolation, assures the objectivity of the rule, and has the ability of tolerating errors. Finally, both software and hardware environment for fault location are designed in this dissertation, and flow chart on the GIS platform is also designed.
