| During the 21st century, ocean engineering is developing rapidly.Nowadays, because of the huge storage of the petroleum and natural gas in the ocean , more and more countries begin to search them in order to serve their economy. Some European countries have studies on this for several years, but in our contury , few jobs have been done on this subject. So in this essay , the outher introduces some jack up's capability check methods to the readers, and some of them are programmed.There are many classes in the world, and most of them have their own check methods, so if a universal criterion can be brought out , it will save much time of the designers. Up till now , our country has not had a software of estimating the designing project. During the designing , some parameters will be modified from time to time , and it will spend much time on checking the capabilities of the jack up by hand. But if we have a program to do this job , it will save us much time. So the first part of this essay will mainly tell you something about it. The program is based on the criterion of SNAME, and the leg length estimation, overturning capacity and the sliding capacity are programmed.General ships' L/B ratio is large enough that we can ignore the influence of the longitudinal stability and only calculate the transverse stability of the ship. But when we calculate the stability of the jack up , we cannot ignore the longitudinal stability because of its' small L/B ratio. But in our country , longitudinal stability is seldom calculated during the designing project. So it is very important to make a program to calculate the whole stability of the jack up, and if it is programmed, the calculation will be more accurate. The second part of this essay will tell you something about this program, and at last the outher use MATLAB to make a right lift based on the calculation.The author has programmed in the essay with MATLAB as the platform, Visual Basic6.0 as programming tool, as followed:(1) The leg length check program base on the criterion of SNAME.(2) The overturning capacity check program base on the criterion of SNAME.(3) The sliding capacity check program base on the criterion of SNAME.(4) The whole stability program base on the jack up.
