With the rapidly economic development of China, the railway transportation is confronted with the great challenge. The overhaul quality directly influences the efficiency and the security of the railway transportation. The auxiliary motor is the driving supply for locomotive auxiliary units, hence all depots should pay attention to its overhaul quality. The test device for locomotive auxiliary motor is exactly the important equipment which tests the overhauled motors. This paper integrated with the actual project has a research on the automated test system of locomotive auxiliary motor, and developed the test device which is controlled by the computer.In the paper, we analyse the target request of the motor test, and then confirms the overall design plan of the motor test device. The test device which can realize the switch between manual and automatic control, is composed of the main console and the computer measure and control system. The test device has two main functions: one is to automatically control operating mode of the motor test, and the other automatically gather and process tentative data of the motor's parameters.The design of the control system in terms of technology is transformed to the question of motor velocity regulation. Silicon controlled rectifier is used in the system to transform the alternating current into the voltage-adjustable direct current so as to adjust voltage-velocity regulation. The main circuit of the velocity regulation system is composed of the transformer, the three-phase bridge controlled circuit and the flat wave reactor. In the control circuit, the digital pulse strings produced by the MCU trigger the thyristors to shift phases, through changing the control angle of the thyristors, the voltage output can changed. Simultancously the voltage negative feedback is used, and the programs of MCU operating PI compute the control angle to enhance the precision of velocity regulation and the rigidity of physical characteristics. In order to produce the pulse signals in-phase, the phase-lock link technology is adopted to keep in-phase between the trigger pulse and the supply voltage.The measurement and control system of the test device is the mono-level distributed system which combines the computer with the MCU to carry on real-timemeasurement, control and management. The MCU receives the control signals from the computer to control the test progress, and collects the testing data to send to the computer. In the computer, C++ Builder is used to program so as to realize data communication, data operation, data display, curve drawing, report creation and so on. When the test ending, the test report is saved or printed according to the actual state. The RS-232 serial communication interface circuit is used to communicate between the computer and the MCU. The conversion of voltage level between TTL and RS232 is accomplished by MAX232.The reliability is an important link in the progress of design. In the paper, the reliability design is discussed from hardware and software these two aspects and combining the anti-jamming measures adopted in the system design.The test device introduced in this paper has the practical value to the automatic test of locomotive auxiliary motor, and is successfully applied in the scene. In the paper, the improved measures have already been put forward in the deficiency of design. It is believed that the development of motor test device is on the upgrade with the development of motor testing technology.
