Stepping motor is a kind of motors that are controlled by pulse. Stepping motor , with it's convenience of connecting with computer, no error accumulation of output angle displacement, high precision in open loop, is becoming the important execute component. With the development of computer, the application of stepping motor is becoming broadened in recent 30 years .Up to the present, it has become the third motor. As the execute component of digital control system, stepping uniformity of stepping motor is always valued. Usually, the accuracy index of stepping-distance angle is used to measure the stepping uniformity. But people are aware by practising that light-heavy step about stepping motor is an important content of stepping uniformity2. And the influence can't be neglected that light-heavy step phenomenon to the situation of high control accuracy (for example: the tool machine by line incising), it affect the movement characteristic of motor. These involve the single step response characteristic of stepping motor. But the research about it is not sufficient. There are not many papers about it, so the knowledge about the single step response characteristic of stepping motor is less. The major cause is the factors that cause the single step response characteristic are many, people are difficult to master the regulation, the method and means of studying about it is not perfect. So there are many limits of stepping motor's application and development. The paper discusses the single step response characteristic on five-phase hybrid stepping motor. It includes a set if computer-based testing system and its implement. Particularly analyses the single step response characteristic of hybrid stepping motor and its light-heavy step cause with the result obtained by the testing system. The paper establishes a mathematics model of systems that include the stepping motor, drive circuit and control circuit. It provides the simulation procedureand it gets the simulation result. A method is introduced to improve the light-heavy step problem in this article. It improves stepping uniformity of stepping motor by comparison between the primary characteristic and improved characteristic. The mean is effective.
