The structural system of steel grid bearing wall is a special structural system of residential building. In this paper, by testing seven prototype models, the behavior of steel grid bearing wall under different loads is discussed. The process of working, failure features and bearing capacity of steel grid bearing wall under vertical static loads are studied through experiment analysis on three specimens. Based on the test of other four specimens, the research is done to expatiate on the process of working, failure features, bearing capacity, structural stiffness and deformation ability of steel grid wall under horizontal static loads and to illuminate the main properties of steel grid wall under horizontal cyclic loadings including the process of working, failure features, bearing capacity, structural stiffness, hysteretic capacity, deformation ability, energy dissipation and so on. At the same time, the reliability of interior connection construction of steel grid bearing wall is studied. According to the process of working and failure features of these specimens in every experiment, the working mechanism of steel grid wall is also analyzed. The test results and analyses show that the vertical bearing capacity of steel grid wall is excellent, the maximum of which depends on the overall stability outside the wall's plane and relates directly to the wall's restriction condition. Under horizontal loads, steel grid wall possess in succession elasticity and elastic-plasticity, and have good deformation ability as well as energy dissipation. Although compared with vertical bearing capacity horizontal bearing capacity is lesser, it can be content to project requirements. Furthermore, the test results show that the steel grid wall with special interior connection construction that horizontal reinforcing steel bars are joined to the vertical flat steel plates can work as a whole under above loads.
