This paper presents the static analyses for ETFE air cushion membrane structure. Firstly, a comprehensive summarization is carried out to illustrate the development, characteristics and important theories used in calculation and design of membrane structures. As one of the membrane structures, ETFE air cushion is favored by more and more architectures these years. However there is still a lot of work to do to maturate its theory. To this question the following researches have been made: a) A shape finding method for ETFE air cushion membrane structure is proposed. According this method a shape finding program is worked out with ANSYS and APDL, and a new shape finding method of ETFE air cushion membrane structure is offered for engineering design. b) Initial form analysis for ETFE air cushion membrane structure is carried out completely; some parameters under the initial form is analyzed in detail. c) Laws which describe the relationship between air pressure and load are studied; a program is worked out with ANSYS and APDL to simulate the outer load actions. d) Static analysis for ETFE air cushion membrane structure is carried out completely; some parameters under uniformly distributed load are studied. e) The force bearing characteristics of air cushion's brims are studied. It is expected that through the research of this paper some exploration in theory will be made for the ETFE air cushion membrane structure design.
