In order to complete the important task that the future informational war has given to the armors, and to fulfill the request of digital development of armor vehicles, it is very important to study the virtual instruments in the armor vehicles. At present, there are many kinds of embedded computers in our country that can be used in new generation virtual instruments in armor vehicles, and the technology is very ripeness. However, because of the past time technology blockade, there are few embedded operating system that can be fulfilled the request of new generation virtual instruments in armor vehicles and applied successfully in it. This paper study the key technologies that requested in applying embedded real time operating system for the implementation of new generation virtual instruments in armor vehicles that based on PC104 embedded computer platform. And study how to apply the object-oriented software engineering method — design patterns, for improving the code reusable and software maintainable and system extendable in the embedded system software design. This paper firstly analyzes the background of the project and the current state of domestic and abroad study. And then on the basis of introducing the whole design scheme of the system, this paper discusses the application of the embedded real time operating system VxWorks in the virtual instrument of the armor vehicles, and study how to apply the design patterns in the embedded system software design, and study how to solve the computer graphics problems for implementing the graphic system of the virtual instrument in the armor vehicles. In the end of this paper, there are some predictions about the future of the virtual instrument in the armor vehicles.
