Coating is a kind of decorative material related to popular life. An architectural coating is an important part of coating. With the improvement of the society, it has been asked for many especial functions to expect for the function of protection and fine decoration, in which Antimicrobial function is an important property. It is well known that latex could directly influence on performance of coating. So, peoples have paid many attentions to Styrene-acrylic latex because of its excellent chemical and physical performances. However, few factories were able to produce superiority latex. Even if they could do it, the manufacture was inferior to import produce. Therefore, it is important to research and empolder excellent Styrene-acrylic latex for functional coating. Scientists have attached importance to nanometer particles because of their specific properties. Nano-silver powder possessed the functions of antibiosis and antisepsis, and was one of the inorganic antisepsis with the most efficiency presently. Simultaneously, nanometer TiO2 possessed also the following properties: safety, innocuity, low-cost, and no secondary pollution, and possessed the functions of antibiosis and antisepsis. Therefore, the interior wall coating with the antibacterial function could be made by the addition of nano-silver and nano-titanium dioxide. The latex polymerization formula has been designed through theoretic research, and the acrylic ester latex has been synthesized in present study. The results showed that the film would be good when the ratio of soft monomer and hard monomer was195to165. The functional monomer could improve the properties of latex; the appropriate content of acrylate would be 4 percent. The results revealed also that polymerization would be instable when non-ion or anion emulsifier was used solely, it is necessary to using synchronously non-ion and anion as emulsifier. When the content of emulsifier was 4 percent and the ratio of non-ion and anion emulsifier was 2 to 1, polymerization would be stable. The ammonium persulfate (0.05%wt) was used as initiator in acrylate ester polymerization. The prepared latex appeared the performance of low formed film temperature and low formaldehyde content. Moreover, the interior wall coating with the antibacterial function has been made by additions of nano-silver and nano-titanium dioxide. The experimental results showed that the antibacterial efficiency could be over 90% to E.coli contacting for 1 hrs under the additions of nano-silver (0.1%wt) solely, and nano-silver (0.025%wt) and nano-titanium dioxide (0.1%wt) synchronously.
