Bio-artificial Liver Support System (BALSS) is essential to the survival of suffers with heavy liver diseases such as acute liver failure. Hepatocytes'viability and liver-specific differentiational functions should be considered to the BALSS. This dissertation focused on the research of detecting hepatocytes'viability and functioninbio-reactor of BALSS with a novel system. Firstly, the principles and methods of cells'viability detecting were described. And two key bio-chemical indexes—urea and albumin were set as parameters. Tow kinds of ultra bright lighting emitting diodes (LED) used as lamp of colorimetry. Secondly, a novel monitoring system architecture based on LED and integrated optical-electric sensor was presented, which used red LED and yellow-green LED as measuring lamp to detect albumin and urea. The system includes three parts: sampling sub-system based on precision peristaltic pumps, photoelectric sub-system which includes two LEDS and cuvette and two OPT301 (optical-electric sensor), controlling units. Thirdly, LED module simulation based on Monte Carlo algorithm was demonstrated in detail. Some optimized parameters was given such as LED's encapsulation,cannula out of LED,distance of several components after simulation applied by TRACEPRO and ASAP(professional software). Finally, a contrastive experiment was designed to test the system's performance. The result of experiment compared with UV-2800 spectrophotometer proved that this system satisfied the requirement of BALS, which can qualitative fast detecting online, sample culture during the running process of BALSS, qualitatively analyze Albumin and Urea quickly, and then display the two indexes, lets operators take measures . The most advanced point of this system is online qualitative detecting, without influencing system processing, without polluting to the system. Getting data quickly on-site, ease to adapt the system (such as changing cells, regulating environmental indexes).
