The Research On VR-based Material Handling Remote Operating Simulation

Aiming at the real operating environment of material handling, develop an interactive virtual working platform, which simulates job machine fetching objects. Most of all, in the environment where exists some threat to operator's life safety, what we need is to achieve harmony between operator and machine, and realize the goal of safe operation, accomplish the task effectively.Setting goods loading/unloading environment of port as studying object, reproduce VR-based scene of real freight yard. Meantime, fetching cart-a typical fetching machine as controlled object, in the way of associating VC++ development environment with WTK software package, and in combination with some 3D modeling software such as 3DS, Pro/E. UG Build up a Man-in-Loop simulation, in which operator is considered into the virtual environment, gesture and viewpoint are employed to reflect the controlling behavior of operator, the model of cart is looked as controlled object. A series of research are carried out as follows:1) Virtual Reality is fit for the need of engineering, and mechanism of mankind sense organ and interactive technology of human-computer is explored.2) On the base of the modeling of geometry, physical property and behavior, conduct the research on collision detection based on bounding box.3) Set data glove and stereo graphics crystaleyes as the typical interface of human-computer, have done some research on the generating algorithm of stereoscopic viewing, synthesis and recognition technology of gesture.4) Study the follow-up control of viewpoint with the help of Spaceball. Meantime, take a punt at blending sound with virtual scene.Based on these researches above, create a desktop VR system. In this system, operator, computer and job machine are combined to execute material handling. The system blends multi-dimension information acts as a bridge of linking human with operating machine. Operator could control the simulation process by the means of data glove, spaceball and keyboard, and know the condition of executive from the crystaleyes, thereby correct the controlling strategy, achieve the optimum result.
