Roll-over Protective Structures (ROPS) and Falling Object Protective Structures (FOPS) are a steel frame system installed on earth-moving machinery to prevent a seat-belted operator from being crushed and reduce the property loss should the machine roll over or subject to falling object. In some developed countries , the regulations concerning ROPS and FOPS, which should be attached to some special vehicles such as loader, tractor, scraper and grader, come into force with the improving performance requirement for them, but there have been no perfect tests data and theories for the design of ROPS and FOPS. In order to improve the quality of design and manufacture of homemade vehicles and speed them to come into the international market, take example for 3303B mining dump vechicle, the study on the performances of ROPS&FOPS has been made in this dissertation. The main works is: 1.Based on the newest ISO 3471:1994 Earth-moving machinery —Roll-over protective structures —Laboratory tests and performance requirements, ISO 3449:1992 Earth-moving machinery —Falling-object protective structures —Laboratory tests and performance requirements, and ISO 3164:1992 Earth-moving machinery —Laboratory evaluation of Roll-over and Falling-object protective structures —specifications for deflection-limiting volume, this dissertation describes the structure types and characteristics, function, performance requirements and testing regulations of Roll-over and Falling-object protective structures of the vehicle, with which the theoretical analysis and testing researches can be performed. 2. According to the above standard, as an example, the general method of finite element model creating has been built. The the nonlinear finite element analysis of the performances of the 3303B mining dump vechicle's ROPS&FOPS have been performed with American software ANSYS8.0,the fail mechanism and several key problem which should be paid attention to in design are acquired after the model experiment of it , including calculate lateral direction bearing capacity, least energy absorbing capacity, vertical bearing capacity,longitudinal...
