It is a great subject related to such fields as power electronic technology, power system , electric automation ,etc. The theory of inactive power and research to compensating device have borne significative fruit in recent years. The task is designed for Static synchronous compensator applying in distribution system. StatCom has been applied to succeed in transmission system of high-pressure large capacity while there is few study and application in the low-voltage distribution system. To distribution system, because the change of load is at random and its parameter is scattered, StatCom should compensate reactive power and electric current in electric network, as well as steadying nodal voltage. This thesis is just to the development and using of StatCom in distribution system. The main task that it should solve is stability of input voltage and compensation of the inactive power, and suppress harmonic.At the first, it describes the history, general situation, and the functions of FACTS in this paper. Besides StatCom, the basic working principles of other common FACTS controllers and theirs differences between configuration and corresponding theories are also introduced. The fundament principle of compensation and voltage stability with StatCom are described in this paper. The mathematics model of steady voltage type single bridge StatCom has been set up. The choice range of every parameter has been confirmed,and the control strategy suitable for StatCom in distribution system has been proposed.To be familiar with the control and system parameters to distribution systems is very important in order to complete normal function for distribution StatCom. The thesis analyse several more important systematic parameters in StatCom device combining with the theory.
