The structure of high efficiency pre-stressed concrete, through development history of 100 years, has already been widely applied to civil engineering, bridgework and anti-settlement engineering with its high structural performance and good economical efficiency. However, the development of pre-stressed concrete has been restricted due to its complex in theory and calculation and it is difficult to master for designers. Firstly, the article gives an analysis to three concepts of pre-stressed concrete and then studies the characteristics of pre-stressed concrete as well as its scope of application. Some useful theories of pre-stressed concrete structure design are finally concluded: to use high strength material for pre-stressed concrete; to select curve or broken line graph in accordance with structure stress status. And also, using bonding process or the process without bond in construction should be designed according to practical situation of the project; making the longitudinal secondary beam and the wide side main beam in arrangement of frame structure; during design calculation, shortcut calculation can be used to analy se inner force , that is, load balancing method to replace the equivalent load method, in which crack opening of concrete is controlled by nominal tensile stress method. These two methods are used in pre-stressed design of Baotou oirfield building. The results of analysis demonstrated that shortcut calubation can carry out to the actual proiect due to its concision and accuracy.
