With the development in complication, integration and performance, fault detection of electronic engine controller (EEC) is becoming more difficult than before. As one of the key technologies in testability, built in test (BIT) has been adopted in EEC design to improve the reliability of aero-engine control system. On the basis of fault model analyzing of the typical circuit modules in EEC, the paper puts forward the BIT methods by hardware and software, which are realized in a DSP - based aero-engine electronic controller. In order to validate the BIT capability in EEC, a design idea of smart-BIT-testing adapter for FADEC system is proposed in this paper. The adapter includes an ARM-based fault-injector and a PC computer. Besides the abilities of fault injection and result collection, the adapter can also provide the running interface of EEC. Fault injection experiments are carried out in the EEC with the smart-BIT-testing adapter, the results of which show that, the BIT capability of EEC is viable and the adapter is a virtual tool in the process of BIT design and application.
