The secure operation of the power network is seriously threatened by voltage collapse.Because load characteristics play an important role in voltage collapse, the load characteristics,especially, the power electronic load characteristics and their effects on static voltage stabilityshould be studied. In this pape the multiple-index were proposed to be the appraising index of the staticvoltage stability, based on which the grade-weighted method were applied on the selection ofkey buses, key lines and key zones of Beijin electrical network. In order to find the buses toinstall the load models identification device, the effect of the static load characteristics onvoltage stability is also evaluated. In this paper the static characteristics of conventional loadsand power electronic device loads have been determined through measurement using thedeveloped interruption generator. Static voltage stability studies show that the power electric loads canlower the system maximum load capability remarkable.
