Level measurement is widely used in the fields of oil industry -. chemical industry and meteorology. Among all the level measurement instruments, ultrasonic level measurement instrument is developed faster and used more widely. Ultrasonic wave propagates at the constant speed in the same medium and reflects when meets with obstacle. Based on this theory, ultrasonic level measurement instrument is manufactured. The main merits of ultrasonic level measurement is non-contact, high accuracy, low of price, convenience of using and so on. In recent years, with the high development of high speed digital processing and micro-processor, ultrasonic level measurement instrument has obtained a great advancement.The paper introduces deeply the basic principle and the realizing method of the ultrasonic level measurement technology. On basis of absorbing and referring to the domestic and foreign advanced ultrasonic level measurement technology, the hardware and software are designed which is based on DSP(TMS320VC5402). Also the paper analyzes thoroughly some interference and influence which may be in the measure system and gives some solutions.Function, stability and reliability are final goals of the design of the instrument. On the premise of realizing the basic function, the instrument tries to optimize the design of the hardware and the software. The system makes full use of the merits of DSP which can handle signal at high speed and makes up of the MCU's shortcoming which is not good at dealing signal. The design improves the measure accuracy, simplifies the design of hardware and reduce production costs .During the design of the instrument, the stability of the system is payed high attention to. The reset circuit is used in order that the instrument can work correctly. Some corresponding measures are employed to avoid some disturbance in circuit. In order to decrease the interference of instrument error and improve the accuracy, temperature compensation, signal filtering and some other measures are applied in the design of software.
