Eco-Protection Technology is a kind of engineering technology rising with construction of Expressway in the whole world. Different from the traditional engineering protection technology, Eco-Protcction Technology utilize plant its own characteristic and combine essential engineering protection to achieve the purpose of consideration between engineering construction and environmental protection fully, People pay attention to environmental protection and life quality more and more nowadays, Using Eco-Protection Technology becomes a kind of trend in slope protection of highway, it also represent the developing direction of slope protection.There have no successful experience and no final model of design about slope protection of highway at present in our country, and have no technical regulations to follow even more. At present research of Eco-Protection Technology concentrate on to construction craft and research on water and soil conservation mainly, neglect domatic plant engineering mechanics behavior of root system protect research combined together with plant protection and engineering protection, it result in the protect theory far its lag behind development of the protecting technical application, restrain the application of Eco-Protection Technology in slope protection. This paper, based on the study results of the Scientific and Technological Project of Hubei Provincial Commnications Department (The Subject on Study and Application the Technology of Slope Protection and Ecological Restoration along the expressway from Xiaogan City to Xiangfan City Hubei Province) , on the basis of study the available relevant materials about the Eco-Protection theory and application, it summarizes the base of utilizing plant to protect the slope: Including the function mechanism and coverage of effect of the root system mechanics effect , the function priciple of the Hydrology effect , the function process and way of Ecological effect, and carry on objective appraisal to its Economic benefits. Results indicate there have reasonable mechanics basis to support Eco-Protection Technology which can strengthen and stabilize the slope effectively. Indicate that have good Ecological benefits , Economic benefits and Social benefit in a large amount in road construction using the Eco-Protection Technology to protect the slope at the same time.Adopting the method of on-the-spot test to combined with indoor experiment, several important indexes that influence plant protection performance is tested to determine. According to the statistical analysis of relation of plant root system densityRd and bury depth Z, we can find root system density reduce sharply when depth increase, and obey the logarithm distribute. According to statistical analysis of plant root amount Rw relation of bury depth Z, we find the root amount of the plant reduces with the depth increase gradually too, and obey the index distributed. As to Write clover and Bermudagrass, theirs root system tensile strength P and root system diameter relation of D fit with index comparatively accurate, comparatively accurate with the method that the multinomial fits to the Amopha fruticosa. When the root system reaches in certain content range , there is obvious increase with the increase of root content Rw to cohesion C, angle of internal friction is up to the growth but root quantity not very obvious. Result of the test indicate, shear strength of rock and soil mass improved with the increase of root content. The simulation rainfall test proves that plant root system can improve the capability of resisting and eroding of soil mass obviously under different conditions, at the same time it shows plant these improvement also associable with soil , root content , soil property situation and a great deal of other factors .According to the data from experiment, this paper combine actual slope go on stability analyse, the result indicate that safety coefficient of slope raise to some extent with the increase including root quantity to general shallow layers.
