MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is one of the main detection instrument onboard the TERRA and AQUA satellites. Compared with the previous satellite detectors, it has some specific characteristics, plus its globally free data-receival policy. All those make MODIS attract more scientific research attention. Up to now many foreign commercial softwares have presented support to MODIS data processing, but too expensive. Accordingly the domestic research began a little later and has just spread the work respect on data processing, technology comprehension, assimilation and regional application. The all-around, standardized and systematic products referring such fields as atmosphere, land, ocean are still on research.After giving detailed introduction about MODIS characteristics and MODIS 1B saved file format—HDF, this paper focuses on the problems existing in MODIS 1B data, such as reflectance/radiance calibration, destripe, BOWTIE removal, and solar zenith angle rectification. The cause and resolving algorithm are presented based on the former relative research..1) The appropriate methods are selected in accordance with the stripe noise characteristics and the application results are given.2) As to the BOWTIE phenomena, a method is developed to compute the overlapping and remove the problem during the geometric correction phase.3) The reprojection and resampling during the geometric correction also are considered and an approach is found;4) The processing flow chart is drawn and translated into program with IDL and Visual C++ languages.Finally the result quality is analyzed. NOAA-NDVI is used to verify the MODIS-NDVI result, the relationship between the two NDVIs is simply discussed as well. It is concluded that the algorithm introduced in this paper is feasible .
