Blasting fragmentation distribution is an important index adopted generally to evaluate the quality quantitatively in engineering . It affects the efficiency of each follow-up producing process and the total cost in mining .In building dam engineering with blasting, the blasting fragment-size has a principal influence on the dam quality. The problem to control the blasting fragmentation was very complicated. In despite of plentiful study done by researchers at home and abroad, the question was not solved very well until now. The difficult is that the formation of blasting fragmentation was controlled doubly by rock characters, which involves the joint and crack, explosive characters and blasting parameters. Therefore, making a thorough study on the blasting fragmentation distribution is of momentous theoretical and practical significance. The paper is made up of four aspects.At first, the main parameters affecting distribution of the bench fragmentation in blasting are analyzed, which involves the rock characters, explosive characters and blasting requires. The factor affecting blasting fragmentation distribution was ordered by grey correlation analysis.Secondly, the paper not only presents rock blasting fragmentation fractional model by applying fractional theory but also deduces the fractional model is the same in form as the empirical G-G-S distribution.Then the fractional test method is presented to compute the size compositions of the rock pile by applying fractional theory and the technology of taking photos and numerical image processing.Thirdly, the bench blasting fragmentation distribution prediction model was presented by applying BP neural net .The model predicted any types bench blasting fragmentation distribution truly and practicably. In the light of the blasting economical optimal mathematical model ,the optimization design of blasting parameters can be achieved.Finally, the researching methods and results mentioned above were combined into blasting optimal useful technology and were synthetically applied to the blasting practice in production of the Shaxian quarry. The determination and optimization of the bench blasting fragmentation distribution was put forward to the Shaxian quarry based on its drilling, digging and loading capability. The results of those applications shows that methods mentioned above are available and get good economic benefit.
