Electric locomotive control technologies are being greatly improved unceasingly and the newest control skills with the core of microcomputer come into being gradually with the quick development of power electronic and computer control techniques. Because of the quick development of microprocessor techniques and all kinds of field-buses, distributed control skills applied in microcomputer control system are becoming possible However, the traditional relay control circuit is very difficult for the development of the control system of modern electric locomotive due to its limitation. Therefore, this paper presents CANBUS and failure-tolerant techniques and designs a logical control unit of electric locomotive to better the control performances of locomotive and improve its reliability. The structure of LCU and the working flow of major parts are expounded in this paper. At the same time, considering the characteristic of CAN2.0B protocol, a high effective and well functional protocols is formulated. Lastly, not only the fault-tolerant performances is analysed but also the reliability criterions are introduced to evaluate the reliability of the system.
