SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) technique is a new subject that was developed in 1986, it is an integrated process of computer, CNC (Computerized Numerical Control), laser and new materials science, and it is one of RPM (Rapid Prototyping Manufacturing) techniques. The most distinctly discrimination between RPM and conventional machining process is its layer-wise manufacturing concept, as well as integrated design & producing fashion from concept design, detail design to prototyping. The software system is the soul of rapid prototyping system, including the data examine and processing software and the CNC code outputting software. The main functions of the rapid prototyping software system: inputting the data file of the model, examining its rationality and revise the mistake, dividing the model into layers, setting the process parameters, outputting CNC code, processing emulation, etc. In this thesis, the investigation status and mechanism of SLS were deeply studied. Some influence factors to the quality of prototyping part were discussed and the software system based on the SLS was realized. The main contents as follows: The main reasons of why the rapid prototyping software system blocks the investigation and development of the technique were studied. The software system was divided form the machine and could output the customized CNC code. Some influence factors to the quality of prototyping part were discussed for the setting of the parameter items inside the software system. Some methods of how to optimize the technical parameters were given. The line-by-line scanning mode, interleaved scanning mode and grid scanning mode were realized in this system. The rapid prototyping software system based on SLS was realized. And the CNC code outputted by the system was examined through processing simulation and experimentation.
