A Study On The Optimization And Conformation Of External Space In WUT Campus

With the deep change of the idea for modern higher education, the mode of it has been transformed from obturation into opening and, the mode of the campus human communication has thus been conducted to the pluralistic interaction among students, tutors and society. The transformation of the concept initiates people's new recognition to the space modality of campus in which both material and mental functions of the external space are becoming increasingly important. A campus external space characterized with the full-bodied cultural atmosphere, beautiful scenery, considerable transportation structure and those sites for optional talk which can be founded everywhere will exert a subtle and invaluable influence on students and tutors, and also be an ensure for the vigor of campus.Wuhan University of Technology, since combination and setting up, has set the goal to be a research university. It came up with the long-range target to build a high level university whose "overall level is domestic top-ranking and level of some subjects is international top-ranking", which gave an unprecedented high priority to the basic construction of the campus. The external spaces of the University campuses before combination, which had their own characteristics respectively, have appeared many disadvantages under the present situation, thus need us to research and work out tactics and mode for reconstruction. It is also necessary to conform spaces of each branches of the University so as to build a relatively integrated and large campus. The article is intended to make some research on the external space of Wuhan University of Technology and explore ways and strategy for the optimization and conformation to meet needs of the construction of the campus external space in three layers including academy, practice and development.Introduction, the first chapter, illustrates the background and definition of the research for the task, and the conception of the university external space, gives the explanation to the aim and meaning of the research, and suggests the research method.The second chapter, summary of the related academic research on external space, classified and briefly states a diversity of the research theories on city'sexternal space in order to pick-up related, reasonable and applicable kernels from them to apply in the research of the article.Functions and elements of university external space, the third chapter, sums up four functions, analyses and advances elements of university external space, enabling the consecution and arrangement of the later actual analysis.Investigation and analysis for the status quo of the external space of Wuhan University of Technology, the fourth chapter, firstly, investigates and analyses the status quo of the external space of its four Branches, Yujiatou, West, East and South; then on the basis, generalizes five disadvantages of its external space by analyzing its overall characteristics.The fifth chapter, principles of optimization and conformation for university external space, presents three basic principles of integration, diversity and people foremost.The sixth chapter, factors influencing on university external space, analyses and expounds how the four factors including natural condition, education concept, manage level and, action and mentality of students and tutors influence the university external space.The seventh chapter, ascertainment and analysis of optimization and conformation for university external space, with the combination of the fourth chapter, is the key points of the article. Basing on the conclusions of the investigation and analysis on the status quo of the university external space in the fourth chapter, and taking the existing research fruits in both domestic and overseas as references, the chapter explores and analyses tactics of optimizing and conforming the university external space from whole to part, including such four layers as construction of image of the university external space, improvement of campus transportation structure, creation and melioration for extern...
