The deformation is one of important standards to guarantee the performance and quality of large structure. But because of the formidable natural environment, it is hard to put present methods into practice. For instance, the upstream slope deflection of dam and the deformation and stress inspection of pipeline under ground, the deformation of structure will affect the security of engineering badly. The present measuring method must determine the reference points to detect corresponding measuring points. So it is hard to fix the instruments underwater and to detect continuously. The same case happens to the deformation measurement of underwater pipeline, which is longer and deeper in water.To solve the above problems existing in detection approach, a new way to detect the structure deformation based on fiber optic gyroscope is presented in the paper. Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) provides angular velocity measurement based on the principle of sagnac effect. When the measurement equipment runs on the surface of structure, the FOG can export the angular velocity. We can ascertain the deformation of structure by corresponding arithmetic. This method is only to prepare the orbit ahead of detection. It can adapt to the request of engineering measurement because implement detecting continuously and make sure the measurement benchmark freely.The basic principle of the new approach is described in this paper. We design the detecting scheme and compare the different measuring result on the experiment model and the cement slope. At last, a series of methods is put forward to eliminate the measurement error in this paper.Much work has been done in this paper:1. Have analyzed the basic measurement principle based on fiber optic gyroscope, and programmed the data receiving and processing software;2. Have done experiment to analyze the precision and repetition of the method on the experiment model , completed the artificial interference experiment, and made comparison between the result of different experiment;3. Have done experiment on the cement slope, compared and analyzed the measurement data, discussed the measurement error source and summarized aseries of methods to eliminate the measurement error;4. According to the experiment result on engineering measurement, brought out the corresponding measures to ameliorate experiment equipment based on fiber optic gyroscope.
