With further acceleration of Chinese economic development, the people's material and cultural life has been substantially improved and the real estate sector has witnessed the unprecedented boom over the decade. With the change of the national condition, villas, a high-end product of the real estate project, have now entered into the people's life. Their considerations for villas have shifted from initially seeking for residential function to multi-dimensional requirements for functionality, natural and cultural trait.Unlike common residential buildings, villas are more dependent on the location, natural environment and floor area of each household. Apart from residential function, villas, to a large extent, carry a culture and need the landscape as its carrier. Landscape is a key gauge for the luxurious degree of villas. Landscapeless design is no villa design. Based on the national condition, our country is characterized few lands and large population as well as sharp contrast of living conditions for different residents. Besides, the current construction of villas blindly follows the foreign practice and is void of considerations for protection and promotion of Chinese traditional culture. A series of problems exist, including how to utilize the local land resources and reasonable arrangement of land resources. Meanwhile, it is quite pressing to create the Chinese villa area that meets the high-grade settlement environment based on continuous innovation. The thesis is based on the method of integration of theory with practice. By referring to the relevant domestic and foreign materials, it makes field research to several constructed villa areas in Beijing, analyzes the characteristics of villa landscape plan and design, and summarizes the existing problems and preliminary solutions in the landscape construction of villa areas in China. The research is focused on the landscape plan and design for a certain villa area at the southern foot of the Thousand-Buddha Mountain in Jinan, a project to be constructed recently, and defines the concept of villa plan and design. In addition, it summarizes the principle of reasonableness for villa landscape design and the principle of nationality embodying the characteristics of the national culture, meeting the international common "5S" standard principle for villa design.
