Fuzzy theory and neural network technology, two research subjects in the field of artificial intelligence, have been widely applied in various domains. A neural network is an artificial system that could perform "intelligent" tasks similar to those performed by the human brain, while fuzzy theory is used to study the fuzzy logic of the human brain. The purpose of developing fuzzy theory and neural network is to improve computer ability by the means of artificial intelligence. A new computational method, which combined the application of fuzzy theory and neural network, was put forward in the paper to calculate the strength of fly-ash concrete.Prediction of strength and optimization of proportioning for the 28d fly-ash concrete are extremely significant in industry. Strength prediction of fly-ash concrete is a typical non-linear system with muli-variables. Currently most present models could not be widely used due to their inaccurate prediction. In this paper a productive and applicable model, which combined the advantages of fuzzy theory and neural network, was developed to predict the strength of fly-ash concrete. The key characteristics of the new model include handy operation, precise prediction and extensive applicability.
