With the economic globalization and the regional integration, the current regional and urban development has presented two tendencies: global urbanization and the urban globalization. Also, a new regional spatialformation--urban agglomerations have already appeared in current urbanintensive districts which well-developed. Thus constructing urban agglomerations has become one popular tactics of improving the regional comprehensive competition. And even more, rational urban agglomerations' spatial organization is the key to future urban agglomerations' development. Although, transportation is not the only factor that affects the urban agglomerations' special structure, it has already become a linkage of regional economy and an important carrier of constructing the urban agglomerations' space. Also, it is the key to regular development and rational organization of urban agglomerations' space. This thesis's basic train of thought is based on analyzing the background and cause of the urban agglomerations' appearance, using the relative research of the experts home and overseas for reference. Considering the connection between transportation and land use as the pointcut , the author analyzed the essential relationship between the transportation and the evolution of the urban agglomerations' space . Thinking different periods of transportation technology development as a clue, the author analyzed the functional mechanism of the transportation from two lays of both the individual space and the agglomerations' space, and emphatically studied modern transportation pattern's (including rapid express railway, bus rapid transit and car) affection on the organization of the urban agglomerations' space, it ends with the research example of middle-Zhejiang urban agglomerations. The thesis is divided into six chapters:The first chapter--introduction. Basing on analyzing the background andthe category of the research, it has pointed out the meaning and innovation of the research, constructed the theory framework. The second chapter--the summarization of the relative research home andoverseas. It has respectively discussed the home and overseas theory on the connection between transportation and the city inner spatial structure, urban agglomerations spatial organization。The third chapter--the transportation pattern's affection on the urbanagglomeration's space. Considering the connection between transportation and land use as the pointcut, the author analyzed the essential relationship between the transportation and the evolution of the urban agglomerations' space. Thinking different periods of transportation technology's development as a clue, it has separately analyzed transportation's affection on the city individual space and the agglomerations' space. The fourth chapter--modern transportation pattern's affection on theagglomerations' spatial organization. From two points of view: rapid public transportation system (including rapid express railway and bus rapid transit) and car transportation system, it has discussed modern transportation pattern's affection on the agglomerations' spatial organization. The fifth chapter--the Mid-Zhejiang urban agglomerations' spatialorganization oriented by Transportation. It has firstly introduced the current character of the agglomerations' transportation and spatial organization, then analyzed the connection between the transportation and the Mid-Zhejiang urban agglomerations'spatial evolution, the functional mechanism of the Mid-Zhejiang urban agglomerations by transportation. Lastly, it pointed out the agglomerations' spatial organization in the Mid-ZheJiang, which oriented by Transportation.
