A Brief Analysis Of Rebuilding Architecture As Thing By Critique Practice Of Architecture

This thesis begins with an experiment on possible free critique practice of architecture. With the analysis of 506 survey samples, we investigated the nature of the rebuilding process of architecture as thing as a result of the architecture critique practice. There are 4 chapters:Chapter 1 explains the concept of architecture as thing.Chapter 2 describes the formation process of architecture critique practice, with case studies including the Main Building and the Third Teaching Building of Tsinghua University.Chapter 3, based on the experimental results, analyzes the separation between the critique of architecture and architecture as thing.Chapter 4 clarifies the ideas of architecture as thing, architecture as concept, and expanded architecture. It also reveals the simultaneous presence of the rebuilding process of architecture as thing and the separation process of critique practice and architecture as thing.Conclusion: Architecture as thing itself is independent. The critique practice of architecture is the cognitive process through which we understand the architecture as thing. In this process, the perceived architecture, which is also in the critique practice sample, is defined as architecture as meaning. It departs from architecture as thing during the critique practice. This departure is accompanied by the rebuilding process mentioned before, which results in the architecture as meaning. However, we cannot completely separate architecture as meaning and architecture as thing. There union is defined as expanded architecture.
