Landscape ecology is a newly interdisciplinary, in which landscape ecological planning is of importance. Currently, many researches have focused on the landscape pattern, function and their control in urban, rural and urban fridge region domestically and abroad. But to the metropolis region, many researches have often settled on fundamental analysis or horticulture planning.Chengdu is the Capital of Sichuan Province, with the development of economy and the increase of population, urban region expansion impacts on landscape structure and function, and limits the regional sustainable development. Consequently, it is urgent for a reasonable planning and design to realize the harmony between development of social economy and ecological environment with urban region expanding.Taking Chengdu as a pilot area, combining the theories and methods of correlative disciplines, such as geographic information system, urban ecology and urban planning, this research develops the fundamental analysis on landscape pattern and its application in metropolis region and studies on its landscape ecological planning based on the landscape ecology, to seek the path in which landscape ecology can exert on planning of metropolis region in process of the acceleration of urbanization under the special situation, i.e. the land resources are scarce with extensive human activities. After data analysis and field surveying, ten landscape types are classified in the region: paddy land, dry land, plantation, woodland, scattered woodland, grassland, residential area, industrial and traffic area far from settlement, water area and badlands. Guided by landscape ecology, the landscape pattern is analyzed and evaluated quantitatively in Chengdu using GIS spatial analysis technology, and some problems in landscape structure are founded out: scattered woodland and water area are intensively disturbed, the natural landscape, in hill area of southwestern Chengdu, is disturbed vigorously, the irregular structure of paddy land and dry land in the eastern hill area is somewhat unreasonable, the scattered woodland in patches inlaying into the woodland limits the latter's ecological function.Based on synthetic analysis of topography accompanying with regional disparity among vegetation, soil and human activity, the landscape ecological regionalization is developed while two grades and ten eco-regions are plotted out. The problems of the landscape ecological function are also indicated: incompletely functioned eco-barriers in western and eastern mountain area, destroyed function of river corridors in plain area of mid Chengdu, negative effects of urban landscapes on surrounding units.According to the principles of landscape ecological planning and design, as well as the landscape ecological mode of 'patch-matrix-corridor', this research attempts to plan and design the landscape structure, by the distribution of industry structures in various landscape eco-region, and the ordinance of the matrix and patches, corridors and nodes against the problems in landscape structure and function. To improve the maneuverability of planning, taking the central urban region as an example, landscape ecological construction, which is currently a core issue in landscape ecology in China, is explored. Firstly, in the light of industry distribution, the characteristics of eleven landscaperegions are analyzed. Afterwards, considering the protecting environmentally sensitive region, building ecological greenbelt, constructing the urban profiles and architectural landscape, the landscape ecological construction is discussed. Furthermore, some suggestions to build the road corridors are proposed, which are of great importance in urban ecology. The methodology in landscape ecology can scratch the primary eco-environmental problems in the region by qualitatively and quantitatively analyzing landscape structure and function in urban region. The blindness in traditional urban planning can be decreased and the policy on urban planning and construction may be more rationalized by introducing the id...
