The capacity spectrum method as the important method of the seismic design andthe structural seismic performance evaluation attracted more and more attention ofthe authors in the world. The designers can know and evaluate the structural seismicperformance easily by through comparing the structural capacity spectrum with theearthquake demand spectrum. In recent years, many researchers improve the method of capacity spectrum andmany theoretical results are got. But there are still some key problems which must besolved in the method of capacity spectrum. Aim at the problems, the work done inthis thesis and the conclusions can be drawn. 1. Classify the earthquake records into nine groups using character period of sitebased on the new code by the factors of characteristic period of the earthquake record,spectrum area and duration of the earthquake, and calculate the response spectra ofearthquakes. According to the statistical regression, the average acceleration responsespectra of the elect earthquake records are satisfied with the standard responsespectrum by new code. The result which is obtained by combining the displacementaverage spectra and the standard deviated spectra are satisfied with the simulatedisplacement response spectrum by new code. 2. Compare two different calculated methods of inelastic demand spectrum basedon the factor of yield strength and equivalent damping ratios. According to thecomparison, the difference of the inelastic demand spectra which are calculated bytwo methods is small when the structural factor of yield strength is small. 3. Compare three different simplified methods of capacity spectrum. Accordingto the comparison, the difference of the hysteretic curve and the structural nonlinearresponse calculated by three methods is big. 4. Improve the method of capacity spectrum, and evaluate the seismicperformance of the regular frame structures which are designed by the new codeusing the improved method.
