The thesis presents the simulation of corrugated pipe culvert without foundation in permafrost with the finite element program ANSYS. The thesis consists of five parts. The first part mainly introduces the development and the research situation of frozen soil and corrugated pipe culvert in China and abroad. The second part is the essential theory of frozen soil, which introduces the distribution, definition, division, physical and mechanical characteristics of frozen soil. The third part introduces the types of culvert usually used in permafrost, and the practical performance of these culverts in permafrost, and emphasizes the outstanding character of corrugated pipe culvert by comparison. The forth part is the center, including of three aspects, which through the analysis of deformation and stress with ANSYS simulates the status of corrugated pipe culvert in permafrost. The first aspect indicates that corrugated pipe culvert has outstanding capacity of supplement of axial displacement by the comparison of the mechanics of corrugated pipe culvert and normal pipe culvert. The second aspect builds solid models that analyze the deformation and stress of pipe culverts with the different diameter of 1.0m and 1.5m, with different degree of frost heaving at the two ends of culverts, and makes the conclusion that the minimum thickness of exchange and the minimum thickness of wall are 0.6m and 2.7mm for corrugated culvert with the diameter of 1. Om and that are 0. 3m and 2. 7mm for corrugated culvert with the diameter of 1. 5m. And increasing the thickness of backfilling can reduce the frost heaving. The third aspect analyzes the thaw settlement of the chosen culverts with the diameters of 1.0m and 1.5m, and the deformation and stress are not beyond the limits. The fifth part is the conclusion that corrugated pipe culvert used in permafrost can exert the excellent capacity of deformation and the tensile and anti-fatigue capacity of steel and has much effects in preventing and solving the destruction of culverts caused by frost heaving and thaw settlement.
