Based on the Merkel theory, this paper establishes the theoretical calculation model of heat and mass transfer used water vapor density difference as driving force between air and water on the fill surface, solves the theoretical model and compares the difference of the results of the theoretical model in several solution methods. By the theoretical model, this paper gets the moist air enthalpy and the water vapor density of moist air and the water temperature and the mass transfer coefficient at every node of the metallic fill. And the conclusion can be used in the design of air handling equipment made of perforated and corrugated aluminum fill.Based on the theoretical analysis, five metallic fills having different dimensions are selected as experimental specimen, and we get a lot of data. Combined the experiment results and the theoretical calculation results, the paper analyses the influence of the property of input air and cooled water on the mass transfer coefficient and the property of output air and water. We get a series of experiential formula of the mass transfer coefficient and the property of output air and water. We also explain the difference of the experiential results and the theoretical calculation results. The application of fill in air conditioning system is illustrated. The fill is used in new type filter and dehumidifier. The new type filter can efficiently purify air and improve the air quality. The dehumidifier can use waste energy to reduce water vapor density of moist air, and it does good to environment protection. The fill will be broadly used in air conditioning system in the future.
