Decoding The Window

Window is one of the most important elements in the field of landscapeand architecture.Not only can it meet the needs of light, air and heat segregation, but also it serves as a landmark between indoor room and the outdoors, as well as media of space changes and transition, and a way of connecting the different space. Further impact has been made for space communication from the inside to the outside of houses ,and vice versa.This study made the window as a main clue of the whole article. It started with the knowing of window, reviewed window's art, meaning and culture coming from it's origin development, maturity.On this base, this study mainly discussed the employment of windows in the field of Chinese classical gardens. Meanwhile, I took the comprehension of windows in modern architecture as references, analysised their actions in space, especially in space communication. Then, I summed-up the window-design technology in space, put forward inspiration and evidence in landscape gardening , so that we could again realize the important function of windows in architecture and nature.
