Large-sized project has the characteristics of long time limit, complex technique and high construction intensity and there are enormous information to deal with in the process of equipment management. In the first part of this paper, through analyzing the development of equipment management theories and models, in combination with the managing practices in the Three Gorges Project, the author explores how to adopt a suitable equipment management model in large-sized project.Traditional equipment management usually pays more attention to technical aspects, but less to administration systems. Moreover, the paper introduces the Equipment Supervision (ES) - an innovation of equipment management in the Three Gorges Project, and discusses the effectiveness and advantage of the ES system in Three Gorges' equipment management. It also theoretically summarizes the ES from the definition, aims, tasks, organization, and methods.Equipment management is a miscellaneous and meticulous work in the enterprises. The traditional manual method is not only lower efficient, but also easily mistaken. By using computer-leading information technology (IT) in equipment management, we can highly improve working efficiency and decrease mistakes to the minimum. The computerized management information system (CMIS) is an accompaniment of information technology. The computerized Equipment Management Information System (EMIS) is a kind of perfect tool for equipment management. It includes prophase management, file management, site management, maintenance management staff management and other diversified aspects relate to equipment management. The EMIS possesses many advantages such as simply-maintenance, easily upgrade, conveniently-operation and others etc. In this paper, the author analyzes the development and application of information technology (IT), especially in equipment management. The author also elaborates the construction method, main functions and characteristics of EMIS in view of from.In the final part of this paper, the author introduces the experience of spare parts management in the Three Gorges Project and analyzes how to do ordering, warehousing and selling work in large-sized enterprises in the premise of insuring spare parts supply. The spare parts management information system is perfect software with query, search, ordering, supplier & client management and many other functions. With the help of spare parts management information system, we can make spare parts management convenient and efficient and achieve the goals of cost controlling, inventory decreasing and capital occupation.
