Energy sources and environment protection are two important problems that mankind is confronted with. As a kind of alternative fuel, emulsified fuel can reduce fuel consumption and emissions. In this paper development and actuality of emulsions at home and abroad described, all mostly problems were analyzed when emulsified diesel oil applied. The main content, intention and meaning of problem investigations were put forward.The performance and combustion mechanism of emulsified fuel used on diesel engine were studied in this paper. According to knowledge of surfactants, the emulsifiers were selected and mixed by the rule of Hydrophile-Lipiphile-Balance value. The stability of emulsified fuel and the factors that influence the stability of emulsified fuel was investigated.In the preparation of emulsified fuel, the emulsifier accompanying with engine, which made up with the mechanical blender and the ultrasonic emulsifier, had been designed in this paper. Diesel oil and water turned into thin emulsified fuel with the shear and extrusion in the mechanical blenders, and then became thinner with the ultrasonic cavitations. The emulsified fuel was sheared and scattered when it passed the three lays in the mechanical blender. Especially in the third lay which made up of two sieves, theemulsified fuel became thinner. The ultrasonic emulsifier made up of self-excitation power ultrasonic sounder and the ceramic ultrasonic transducers. So the ultrasonic emulsifier was more practical and cheaper. Various ratios of water to emulsified fuel were prepared by the emulsifier accompanying with engine. By the experiment which various ratio of emulsified fuel were burned in the combustion furnace which was design by the author, it showed that the ratios of water to emulsified fuel in 10~20% had the highest combustion efficiency and some metallic ions contributed to the combustion efficiency. When the emulsified fuel was burning in the flesh air, the phenomena of the micro-explosion was found and the black smoke was little than the black smoke which produced by the burning absolute diesel oil. It showed that the emulsified fuel had the effect of reducing pollution.After the design of the emulsifier accompanying with engine and the experiment of burning the emulsified fuel, we would finish the experiment of the bench test of engine easily.
