The control system, machinery and magnetic structure of giant magnetostrictive inchworm motor (GMIM) have been designed based on the controlling theory, characteristic of giant magnetostrictive material and performance index of the subject. The mathematic model of the inchworm motor has been founded and the simulation of characteristic has been carried out.The characteristic of giant magnetostrictive material has been tested and analyzed, mainly including the static character of material and dynamic behavior parameters of the subject.The actuator design mainly includes the machinery and magnetic structure and model building of utility system. The magnetic structure reveals operating principle, magnetic structure and physical model. The foundation of model gives the procedure of the motor quantification.Applying the theory of automatic control system, the control system hardware circuit of motor has been designed. The main components -central processing unit (CPU) adopt the chip TMS320VC33 made in America that have low power and lower price. The hardware system includes power supply circuit, clock reset circuit, JTAG model building circuit, decoding circuit, memory interface circuit, man-machine interface circuit and numeric control constant-current source interface circuit. At the same time design scheme, function diagram and schematic diagram are also offered.By using emulator program software--MATLAB, the model function is deduced on the base of whatmentioned above.These what has done above will offer theory and preparative to realize the hardware system.The performance index of control system is that the journey of the motor is 8mm, the pace is 10um and the speed of pace is 10um/s in this control system. At the same time this control system possesses these merits of low power, high control accuracy and fully automatic control, etc.
