Being a new material, SMA's application prospect in seismic control of tructrue appears to be highly promising. The structure vibration control offer a new approch for the seismic design for structure, Hence, the study on the method of passive structure control with SMA dampers has considerable value.The principal content in this paper is the study for passive control systems of earthquake response of structure using SMA damper. First, one type of SMA-based passive energy dissipation device was developed to utilize pseudo-elastic property. Then, according to the characteristic of response of the passive energy dissipation systems, adapting the bilinear restored force model, the MOF shear type elastic-plastic time history analysis program is compiled. The vibration-suppressed is verified and vibration control mechanism of SMA dampers is studied by time-history analysis. The results obtained in the paper demonstrate that the SMA passive control system is capable of significantly reducing the seismic response of the building. Thirdly, through the combination of the different parameters of SMA dampers, The influences of SMA dampers on reduction effectiveness is studied and the optimal range of parameters are obtained.At last, based on the research results of energy dissipator and structure with energy dissipation at home and abroad, combined with the Chinese code for seismic design of building, the seismic design principle and methods for structure with energy dissipator are studied.
